A group of highland women and their children gaze at snow-capped peaks, their long shadows cast by the Andean afternoon. Francisco Huaynate and family depict a scene from Puno at an altitude of over 12,000 feet along the banks of Lake Titicaca. Hailing from the textile heritage of the Andes, Huaynate designs tapestries steeped in the past and present of the Peruvian highlands. Employing wool and cotton, the artisans elaborate the pieces on rustic looms, achieving prominent textures through age-old techniques. Titled Caminantes puneñas in Spanish.
