Full lips and wide, innocent eyes characterize this mask by Juliana Akandas. The hair is neatly combed while brass repoussé emulates tribal scarification. A symbol of beauty, the work derives from the Ada who form part of the modern Adangbe tribe of Ghana. Such masks are given to young girls during their puberty rites.
