Celebrating the traditions of eastern Nigeria, Nii Okaija Annan carves a spectacular pair of sese wood masks. Their whitened faces replicate the art of the Mmwo, a masquerade cult that honors spirits and ghosts. Featuring the artistic stylizations of the Ibo people, the female mask is made to be more expressive since she is believed to manifest emotion, more so than the man does.
